This picture speaks to my soul. Sweet Evie wants to chase and grab a chicken so badly. We have to stay right with her or keep her in the fence to prevent her from a strong desire to run with abandon and chase after all the things that look good to her aka…chickens.
I don’t believe her intention is to kill, proven by the time she came into the house, tail wagging, as she presented a chicken to me...in her mouth! She was very confused when I yelled like a psycho not understanding how in the world she had a chicken in her mouth in the house (a little Dr. Seuess for you:). Apparently a door was left open allowing her the freedom to run and chase without a care in the world.
Too many times she took off after deer as I raced after her in my pajamas looking like a lunatic, or yelled to John David to run after her in his bare feet. Thankfully she has been saved from herself!
Needless to say we learned a new way to discipline her. Every time we walk out the door with her we say, “no chickens, no deer” reminding her that we know what she truly wants haha! We keep our eyes on her and bring her back in with a treat saying “good girl, no chickens, no deer”. She is very proud of herself:)
I took this picture the other day and marveled at the sunlight shining between a fenced in Evie and the chickens roaming free. The sun rays remind me of God’s presence as He watches over us, His children.
He places restrictions around us for our protection, yet gives us freedom in Him. He knows we will run to all those pretty things that call to us in our sin, therefore He sent His son to die an ugly death on the cross to save us from ourselves. No other gift could be of more precious than that.
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1
We are free from ourselves in Christ. I constantly remind myself to stop beating myself up over all the things I perceive as doing incorrectly each day, ask forgiveness and move on. I remind myself it has already been done for me, I can rest in Christ.
Enjoy this beautiful Easter weekend!
