For This Child I Prayed.....

1 Samuel 1:27
"For this child I prayed, the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him."

Oh how I prayed for this child when she was an ocean away from me.
I was awake at 4 a.m. praying for her again
nothing life threatening
just those early morning hours full of questions
she has given us reason to question retethering of her spinal cord
most likely nothing
very likely behavioral
but we have to make sure....
we have many tests in the coming weeks....
hence the worry at 4 a.m.
I have friends dealing with life threatening right now
this is not
I have dealt with life threatening
she is my baby
so I wake at 4 a.m.
and I pray for this child God has granted me
this child so full of spunk
who now is afraid of hospitals and such....

Happy 7th Birthday Madeline!!!

I know we all say it but I can't believe my baby is 7 years old!!

Goodness she looks so grown up in this picture!
(sure wish I had a better focus!)

Madeline had her birthday party on Sunday afternoon with her friends from school.
She had a gymnastics party...
does not even take gymnastics anymore but wants to again:)

Way too many pics but I just can't help it!
Madeline pretty much designed this cake herself...
Kipp made the princess castle cake for Janie's birthday,
soooo I emailed her and told her Madeline wanted a "snowflake" cake.
I love what she came up with!

all the grown kids watched from the gallery...
and yes Hank is a grown kid!

Madeline insisted upon wearing a ballerina leotard...
it's her birthday!

John David soon became bored in the "gallery" and joined the girls:)

John David was pretty good lol

McKlain and Madeline

Madeline and Maggie
Julianne nanny's for Maggie and her brothers...
we love their family!

Carson, Gabby and Marin

She was directing who got to choose a present for her to open:)

I love the excitement she has!

She decided Janie needed one of her ribbons:)
Janie was just a little jealous during the party:)

Madeline sure has grown this year..
in size and maturity.
She continues to be a deep thinker
loves deeply too
has a great giggle
oh and when she is happy....
I don't know another as happy as her
but when she is sad......
well, she feels that deeply too
we adore this child so
on this day
every single year
I think of a woman across the world
who gave this precious girl of mine her life
I cannot imagine her thoughts on this day
I pray she knows in her soul
that her child and mine
is blessed and loved so....

Happy birthday my precious girl!

Wedding and Preschool.....

Most days I don't dwell much on the vast age differences of kids we have in our family
today I dwelt on it....

I was out the door at 7:15 to get Madeline to early reading group
John David and Janie off to school early as well.
Hit an early work out class
home to shower
off to meet another florist with Julianne
received a call while in the meeting that Janie needed to be picked up
run home to get change of clothes for her
on to the school
get her into car
listen to her yell and whine at me as she hears me call the doctor's office
she is not happy to go to the doctor
Yep, I'm getting that she is not happy as she continues to cry and whine and kick the seat
I'm reassuring for quite some time...
then I'm kinda done with it
the whining and all.....

make calls for wedding while Janie is content to eat lunch
make more calls for wedding
send some emails for Julianne as she is rushing to an interview
for a job she really wants
after said florist was not organized and she was running late and stressed
so.....I'm a little worried for her as well

get Janie back in car
go to doctor
discuss tests and discuss the probability that it is nothing
discuss testing for school and holding back.....again
my mind is whirling
get in car

talk to Julianne about wedding
interview went great
call Hank about Dr visit and other appointments made
and it is only 3:00

time to get other kiddos
swim practice
pick up gift for shower tomorrow
pick up quote from florist who does not understand how to email it
not using her anyway...ha
more calls on wedding

oh yeah Janie's enema was done somewhere during this time
Julianne got home
went to get John David
picked up pizza he wanted
Julianne goes out
talk to Hank (gets back tomorrow:)
put girls to bed
I can't even describe the endless needs that are met during bedtime rituals

chillin with a glass of wine while John David watches TV.....8:24

Yeah I'm dwelling on it a bit tonight
this vast difference in ages.....

makes me laugh a bit now that I'm finally able to relax
I laugh now too that I didn't even list the many other things that went on

can you believe I even get to be THE Mom to these two???
I may have days like these but they are NOTHING
compared to the joy these girls give me!

Some day soon I will look back
with fond memories of planning such a great wedding
with all things Julianne
see our Janie thriving in whichever grade we have prayerfully placed her in
figured out her health concerns
and know that God was in each and every minute of our days
nudging us along...
giving us the encouragement that only He can provide
because deep in my soul I know He has marked THIS day
perfectly with His touch
I choose to dwell on this....

Psalm 118:24
"This is the day the Lord has made,
let us be glad and rejoice in it."

Parenting 101......

If your children are 13 or older "don't get mad....get even".

Hank and I had only been married less than a year when I noticed he would get so frustrated with the kids taking things and not putting them back in their respected places. Now remember Hank did not just marry me, he married 3 children as well (ages 9,11, 13)....a fact he did not take lightly. He promised me he would  raise them as his own....which he has and then some. He loves these kids who are no longer "kids"totally as his own, a fact I learned first hand since I now love Madeline and Janie just as if I gave birth to them.

Anyhow, back to parenting 101.....those many years ago Julianne usually took our cordless phones up to her room and left them there.....a fact that drove Hank crazy. He was so frustrated one night and I nonchalantly told him, "don't get mad.....get even, have some fun". Well he took it to a whole new level that night. He started laughing and went up to her room. He returned with her comforter full of stuff....her lamp, hairdryer, alarm clock, pillows, brush....if he thought she may miss it, he took it:). She got home a little later and came running to our room asking what happened and where was her stuff. Hank's reply, "it might be with the cordless phones somewhere".  That night is one of my favorite memories of Julianne's high school years....we laughed til we cried. I think Julianne smiled a little, I mean it was creative and she was not grounded:)

Now fast forward to Julianne at 22 years old. She is living back home saving money until she gets married, a fact I LOVE. I'm pretty sure I love it more than she does, seeing as there are little people here as well who adore her and drive HER mad. I may have sighed a time or two over laundry and texted her back a sigh or two but honestly she knows I like to do the laundry myself and don't want anyone messing it all up anyway:). I truly love having her home.

Hank came in the other day and asked if I had noticed all the cups Julianne leaves on the driveway by her car. I think my response was "yep", I had also noticed Janie's dumped over bike on the side of the driveway that has been there for a few weeks due to "it's too cold to move it Mommy"......imagine a whine with that statement! sigh......anyway.......Hank came up with a plan last night at dinner. We felt like Julianne was 14 again as we plotted away....laughing until we cried again!

Here is the text he sent her yesterday afternoon calling her out on throwing trash in our yard.....notice she does not answer it:)  Then he texts her this morning after she leaves the house for church (Hank's texts are in dark blue and Julianne's are in grey).....

she is referring to the next picture.....

I love the one in her trailer hitch hahaha

oh he is funny!!!!
she did smile when she got home:)

We've Had Some Visitors.......

this little varmit is a flying squirrel!
we have learned
or I should say Hank has learned
that they live in colonies
this little guy is number 8
Julianne will tell you that they are partiers (hmmm.. is that even a word)
during the wee hours of the night
like swinging from the rafters party animals!
Hank is on a mission
and if you know Hank
this little colony will be history soon....

Guess Who Got Her Ears Pierced???

MADELINE.....this is the same child that had to be held down to get her flu shot this year....the same child that cries and falls apart when she has a little scrape. She started talking about getting her ears pierced a few weeks ago but I did not think she would really do it. I described what has to be done, that you have to clean them multiple times a day ect. She never stopped asking so we went for it:)

She watched a girl get hers done and did not bat an eye!

Janie is giving Madeline her little pony to hold while she gets pierced:)
By the way Janie was NOT interested in having her own ears pierced, I'm thinking this head strong girl will be a leader not a follower:)

                             oh sweet girl!!!

love this pic and how I wish I could keep my phone steady....geesh!

Madeline begged to go to Daddy's clinic to show him:). She was so very precious!!!!!

She has remembered to clean her ears 3 times a day, I am so proud of my little cutie!!

"I running away"
I think this is my very favorite memory of 2013 lol

Alcatraz baby!

My baby is engaged!!!

no words are needed

There were so many more great memories from 2013....
this year stretched me in many ways...
but I am better because of it.
Most of all I am thankful for this crazy life God has blessed me with!!
He knows I bore easily
so He took care of that!!

I think this (one of my favorite) bible verse summarizes my thoughts
for this past year
my hope is that I dwell on this verse
all the years of my life

Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths."

Happy New Year!
