A Date With John David!

John David had a swim meet last night and Hank had a I got a sitter for the girls and the two of us went by ourselves. It was so nice to be able to pay attention to just him and actually not worry about missing a race!!

We had a great time and he placed first in all his events:), 50 back, 50 fly, 100 free and a relay. Such a relaxing evening for this Mom!!

goofing around after warm ups

love seeing his coach talking to him as he gets ready

checking to see what his time is:)

John David has found his niche in swimming this year. He improved all his times by a second last night, so he was pumped:)
I'm so proud of you John David and especially enjoyed a night alone with my boy!!!

The Witching Hour....

most Moms will agree that it is from 5-6 in the late afternoon and evening. Not for me right now. My witching time has become 6:30-7:30 a.m. I like a little quiet in the morning with my coffee to get me started right. I have not had that since bringing little Janie home. Even if I get up earlier, she will hear me and get up too. There are some mornings, chaos between the girls starts very early as Madeline is immediately jealous of her sister. I'd love to say I put a cheerful smile on my face and calmly encourage my girls. Instead I tend to get ruffled easily and crave that alone time. I am a work in progress in this area.......

I was scrolling through my emails this morning after the girls settled into some sort of camaraderie and opened my Proverbs 31 daily devotion.

"... If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail."  Isaiah 58:10-11

Ya think I needed that????? My sweet Julianne texted me one morning after we skyped and said she hated seeing me so tired (granted it was 6:30 a.m. my time and the girls were in a full force whinathon), to please rely on God more. Yes from my sweet 20 year old that sees me from the outside and can gently tell her Mommy to get a grip!

I'm just sayin it will never happen if I don't totally rely on God. It's one thing to know it in your mind but to believe it in your heart and act upon it daily is another. Many people don't understand the dynamics of an adoptive family are different. The children come from a place of hurt so they need to be parented differently, more patiently (which is not always my strong-suit). But God......He knows all this, He knows how I struggle and I can trust Him to help me. He knew when he called our family to adopt, I would struggle and would need Him more than ever. Yes, I am a work in progress and so thankful that my God is so much larger than my inadequacies!!

OK finished with my self pep talk:)  and by the way the girls have been playing beautifully all the while I been posting.....whoo hoooo

Julianne Made The Newspaper in China:)

So cool. My aunt and uncle are in China traveling and picked up a paper in Shanghai. Aunt Gay noticed an article about Shepherd's Field and thought that is where Julianne is interning. Well, low and behold she turns the page and there is Julianne!!

She has had a wonderful experience that I think will be hard to leave in 2 1/2 weeks. This Mom is so happy that she is coming home but understand how difficult it will be to leave the children behind. My guess is that she will return. I am prepared JuJu!!!:)

Julianne, she even admitted that she misses you:). Oh and by the way, she calls for you every time she gets hurt, " I want Ju Ju"! Madeline has been mad at Julianne for leaving her and has finally accepted that she still loves her even though she leaves.

3 Months Ago.....

we met our Janie in the civil affairs building in Changsha.

So many emotions and fears those first minutes for her and us! Poor baby was so very scared and unsteady on her feet. Hank and I were worried about many things but trusted that God had it under control. It makes me so sad to see her this sad! She still sleeps with her gogolay (doggie, I'm sure I spelled it wrong) EVERY night:)

Within a short time, we got this precious picture. I think it will always be my favorite of her. She was so very brave and embraced us in a matter of hours.

It saddens me to think that daily I forget what she has gone through. She is MY baby and sometimes I forget there was a life she led before us. I feel like she has been mine since birth and it breaks my heart not to have known her before now.

My thoughts about Janie 3 months later and how far she has come:

She now has to have Mommy put her to bed and will wail if  Daddy tries to take her:)
The first few weeks she was unsure of me
She will now wrap her arms around my neck and say " I lush you"
She will wrap her arms around her Daddy's leg and lean her head on his leg
She will fight her brother and sister for anything, John David just laughs at her, Madeline screams:)
She is spunky
a talking machine!
dare devil
has a smile like no other
oh so precious!

trying to do a push up like John David

oh how I love this pic!!

First Zoo trip

She loves to fish:) much to her Daddy's delight

this pic cracks me up since she oozes the little sister look!

wanting to hold the fish like her sister!

We now call the girls "the divas" as they demand much attention!!

It is really hard to put into words the emotions of the past 3 months. Janie is a story of God's faithfulness in caring for the orphan. He truly handpicked her for our family. Makes me tear up to think of either of my girls as orphans but they once were. This life is hard in many ways yet there is nothing more fulfilling in life as to experience becoming a mother to a motherless child. They are no longer motherless and will be fought for with a vengeance by this Mommy. I think back to the week after we received Janie's file and how scared and torn we were. I am so grateful that we trusted God and are now her parents. What a blessing we could have missed out on!!!

I will forever be grateful to a precious foster family who stood in the gap for her until we received her. Every night Janie kisses me on each cheek, my lips and then my forehead and says "ni ni". Each night when we do this ritual I am reminded of how her foster mother cared for her and taught her to love and trust. What a beautiful gift she gave my baby.

My sweet Janie, we love you so very much! You have brought a new level of chaos and happiness to our family that we did not even know we were missing. We are so thankful for you!!!

In Need Of Some Humor!

It has been slightly harried over here lately. I imagine it will remain this way for a while as Madeline continues to I need some good ole humor which my husband gives me regularly just because he is who or what he is!!

Yes, Hank dresses the part of a redneck in his old work clothes that he refuses to give  throw away!! Occasionally, I tell him that most people just throw on a tshirt and shorts.
Just not an option for him
in all his redneckness....oh I jest!!
However, he does put up with my not a morning persona daily.
He talks to me like it is 4 in the afternoon and I just want to crawl into the fetal position
in a hole in the ground and  make the world go away....
but I get a cup of coffee and I can keep up with him after a while.....
but it is hard..
he is mighty mouse on steroids the second BEFORE he gets out of bed DAILY!!!
Truly I wish I was him on some days...
does it not sound glorious to wake up in a good mood and
FULL of energy
Now I'm not lazy and can't "not be doing anything" either,
(as evidenced by 6 kids)
but really he is a mess and so funny!!

His latest tangent of redneck behavior is this....

the Coop DeVille as he calls it
and yes that is cedar siding!

Makes me laugh to look at it.....
I was not laughing though when he worked
THREE staight weekends to make it..

Oh and it cost $15
That is what we tell each other when it costs too much:)

All humor aside, the kids LOVE these chickens:)

Sleeping Beauties and a Day at the "Farm"....

Yesterday the long awaited Sleeping Beauty dresses came in the mail. The girls put them on in the driveway and did not take them off until bedtime. Yes, we did go out to eat in them as well, John David was mortified:). The only drawback from the day is that I now have glitter ALL over the house, in my car, on my clothes, face, mouth, get the picture:)

It got very quiet at one point when John David was at swim practice and this is what I found.....

This happened first.....

These make me laugh. John David and Will look thrilled don't they:) What a boy will do to be able to play with Dad's golf cart!!!

After dinner we went "a pickin" in Daddy's garden...

Hank is proud of his TALL corn this year!

Love the swim hair:) and yes he did go out to eat like this.....that's what happens when you are 49 years old with young kiddos, just roll with it or ignore it:)

this is what happens after the sad face

looking at the baby blue birds

the rest of the "sad" look we saw in pics from China. I'm pretty sure she was not so sad, just not wanting to have her pic taken:)

sparkles on her lip:)
