Shopping Cart......

Do you remember this picture?

She was in a shopping cart in Walmart an hour and a half after we met her. She loved John David pushing her fast in it.

Just looking at these pics makes me see how little we knew of her those first days. I know I will feel exactly the same way when I look back to where we are right now.

Fast forward to yesterday.....
We passed Target and she yelled "I want a shopping cart", then just "shopping cart" for at least 15 minutes. For the past week she cries for "shopping cart" on a daily basis in the car!! And she says it perfectly!
Welcome to America sweet Janie, so thankful to know we are raising you right:)

This morning Janie had her first donut: :)

true love!
Hank just got home as I am writing this and said "um not her first donut"
He took her to the clinic with him the other day and let her have one that a rep left for the staff
He said she was tentative at first and them shoved it in her mouth :)

Some thoughts about sweet Janie:

She is saying some sentences, "where is it?" "I want..." , the famous "shake your booty", "that's a mine" and she says that with ATTITUDE!
She calls all in her family by name and a few friends as well
She calls the dogs and cat by name but calls all other dogs "Goldbug" :)
John David accidentally knocked her down and she said "that's ok John David"
Hank told her she could not go outside without her shoes and she said " I don't know where my shoes are"

I can't keep up with all she is saying.
All my adoptive friends told me that we would be blown away at how fast she would learn and they are so right!

I know that we still have miles to go as far as getting to know Janie. She now pitches a great fit, can whine like the best of them and will tell me "no"!
She will also freely give me a kiss, give me that sweet smile when I catch her looking at me, sings "Jesus Loves Me" with the sweetest look on her face. She skips the words she does not know:)

She ADORES John David, loves Madeline but is not sure where she stands with her sometimes, uh yeah me too:)

All in all I think it is going really well. Some days are so chaotic I think I will lose my mind and other days are so sweet, our new normal!
Madeline is hot and cold. She is either so very sweet and loving to Janie or on a rampage to not let her touch  ANYTHING that belongs to her. So again, I think normal, Madeline's normal anyway:)

John David is doing great with the changes other than not getting attention that he needs when doing homework ect. He is such a sweet kid that he can fall under the radar so Hank and I  has been trying to get some time alone with him. He loves playing pool with his Dad and watching some goofy show with me.

Well there it is in a nutshell. We are all so very thankful for this peanut. She is precious and a gift from God. Adoption is hard work and exhausting both physically and mentally. Yet I can say without hesitation, that we would not want our lives to be any other way!

I have taken Madeline to the dentist 4 times now without her even letting the hygienist look in her mouth. First, I think she was really scared, by the  third time I was skeptical. I took her with Janie 3 weeks ago and after watching Janie be oh so brave she defiantly said she was not going to do it. She was not nice, no matter what I tried. So, I did what all good moms do and I texted her father and said, " I am NEVER bringing her to Dr A again, it is officially Daddy's turn to make it happen." Our dentist is a very good friend of Hank's so I think that helped a bit, he could catch up with John and he was a little embarrassed by his precious daughter's behavior. Yes, she grunted at Dr A.

Hank texted me this picture during her visit with the title "Perfect Angel".  Naturally I responded, "I hate you".  When the exam was over, the doctor discussed with Madeline the problems of the last visit and then asked why she was a perfect patient this visit.  She didn't hesitate and replied, "because my daddy brought me".  Of course she did - I may have taken her to the dentist for the last time in her life.

Don't Daddy's make you just want to lay down and cry sometimes??? Out of thankfulness and pure jealousy!

One Month Ago.......

today we met our Janie for the first time. She has been such a sweet child from the moment we met her. She has now shown some of her defiant side but not anything too much, just gets frustrated when she does not get her way.....I think I am wearing off on her:)

I got these the other day when it was just the two of us for a while.
I can't really put into words what I feel yet
overwhelmed with feelings for her

She has started singing Jesus Loves Me......loud and with a smile.....but only with me,
She looks into my eyes and has the sweetest smile on her face as she sings
I will forever be grateful to her foster mother
It is obvious she sang with her alot
and loved her alot

She can put on a sad face so quick you don't know where it came from
usually when she is not getting her way:)
She has a smile that is just as quick and what you would call an easy smile
She is precious
She is loved

Ivy Joy

Please pray for this sweet child. She had open heart surgery 16 days ago and is in surgery again to fix a nick on her diaphragm and put in a pacemaker. You can follow their blog here to follow her progress. God is using Ivy Joy in a big way to bring His people together in prayer.

Janie had her barium enema xray today and was a total trooper. She was so brave and did not cry until the end. We have not talked to the doc yet but it appears she is no longer blocked and went the rest of the day poo poo free.....amen!! Diaper rash is healing now and she has tt'd in the potty many times. Praise God. Hoping to continue to figure this out. The good news is the radiologist said her intestines look good:)

I felt so sorry for her that I went by Mulan to pick up some of her favorites for lunch. She slept an hour and a half in the car:).

She ate 4 dumplings!

loves that broccoli

She ate 3 fortune cookies:)

She is pointing to her plate where she wants a 'refill':)

We had a great day of respite from the endless diaper to bath changes. I think her diaper rash finally can start healing now. She was so happy all afternoon......
Today has given me a glimpse into what it will be like when we get all the issues figured out and that is oh so good!!!!

My Mind......

Is all over the place right now. I feel exactly like I did when I came home with a day just flows into the next and you can't remember if you ate or if you took a shower. I realized how mentally weird I am when this happened today.....

The kids and I are on our way to see a movie and I am talking to a nurse about Janie's procedure tomorrow, she puts me on hold for a minute and I'm listening to the on hold message that says; " Did you know that icicles are the second leading cause of injury or death to a child, second only to automobiles". Images of children being impaled by icicles falling from houses or children stabbing each other with them are flying through my mind and I'm thinking "REALLY?"

I then hear, "teaching your child to wear his or her helmet while riding bicycles can save a life"

Yes I am losing my mind:)

John David laughed out loud when I told him!

I think the movie helped a bit:)

Janie's First Easter!

First off I have to thank all my bigs for being such awesome kids/grownups. Our house is slightly chaotic right now, chaotic being the key word. These kids just take it in stride and help out all they can. They have accepted their roles as big sisters/brothers with grace. I got back home from I don't know where on Saturday and Julianne had cleaned the entire downstairs and emptied the dishwasher ( my most dreaded chore!). I knew it had been bad that afternoon when she felt so sorry for me!!:) Janie has a horrible diaper rash right now and seeing as she is having bowel issues many times a day makes diaper changes hard. Bless her heart, she calls for her Grandma every time. She is in so much pain, it is painful to watch her as well. We hope we can get it cleared up soon, poor baby!

Despite the chaos, we had a wonderful day. My favorite days are those when all the kids are here. We had a great lunch and an Easter egg hunt. Janie was so cute all day, she is mostly happy until she realizes we have to change her diaper:( Madeline only had one meltdown and was so sweet to Janie during the hunt:)

can't have a post without a crazy John David pic

would not be a normal day in our home without Hank hunting a chipmunk in his Sunday best. Long story about the chipmunk hunting. Let's just say they started it!

Even Janie is trying to act goofy!

she is not sure what these crazy people are doing!

Janie did not trust that Julianne was just opening candy for her:)
